Entry Flooring Done

The floor is finished for the most part.  There are a few little things left like sealing the grout and painting the quarter round, but at least it looks done.  I promised my husband I wouldn't put him through laying two different sized tiles for the kitchen and I'm keeping my promise.  I think the two different sized tiles in the entry way look great and I'm so happy with the way it turned out.  Although, I'm sure anything would have been better than that wonderful 1970's tile and it couldn't get any uglier with the concrete patch from our foundation work.

I can just imagine the next owner 30 years from now complaining about the tile from the 2010's.  Haha.  We will be moving on to the kitchen to do the flooring in there even though the entry way is far from finished.  We still have to go back and patch and paint walls, maybe put in some crown molding and definitely change out the light. 

Here's what I'm thinking for a light.  My mom found it and it's definitely one that looks like me.

The Aftermath

Well, our house survived the recent foundation overhaul.  It has left behind some big weekend projects, but I'm sure we will get them fixed in time.  Here's what we've been left with to fix. New flooring will need to be installed in my kitchen as you can see from the picture below.

Here's my laundry room.  New flooring will go in here too.

Here is my living room floor.  We just took the carpet and threw it back over so it looks nice and wrinkly.  My daughter wanted to know who cut our carpet, I had a hard time explaining that it was a seam to our carpet.

And of course there are cracks all over the house that will need to be patched and painted.

 

 Now on to the latest home repair project, re-tiling our entry way.  This is the before picture.  Beautiful 1970's tile.  I think it was time for a change and it needed it since we had that gorgeous concrete patch there.

After the tile was removed with the hammer drill.  I love this tool. If we didn't have one, then I would definitely want one.  It made taking tile out a snap.

Next step was to put down the self leveler. Here's my hard working husband putting it down.

Here's the start of putting in the new tile.  My dad and husband started putting this down this weekend.  I'm almost positive my husband was cursing me under his breath about the tile pattern.  It wouldn't be a problem except the smaller tiles are not the same thickness as the bigger tiles.  Hopefully, we will get it done to show you after pictures next week.  

My House

I wanted to share with you a few pictures of what is going on at our house right now.  We are having some major foundation work being done.  Here is a picture of the back of the house. 

Here are the pilings that they are driving into the holes on the exterior of our house.  They are reaching a depth of 20 feet.  Amazing!

Here is a picture of one of the holes on the inside of our house.  Yes, they had to put 16 interior piers under our house which they accomplished by jack-hammering through our slab.  Concrete dust is everywhere, as you will see in the next picture.

 

The hearth is black, so that nice white layer is concrete dust. 

Here is a picture of my kitchen.  The board is covering up one of the holes and the one on the left is the start of another hole they are jack-hammering out. We tried to tape off and cover as much as we could before they got started, but as you see from the fireplace above, we forgot a few places. 

There are several more pictures as in every room on the first floor has holes in them, but I won't bore you with anymore of them.  In the future, you might start seeing more interior design posts from me and DIY how-to's for a little while.  We will be spending all our free time with the repairs after the foundation work is complete, i.e. putting in new floors, patching and painting, etc.  I promise I won't abandon my crafts, but this has to be taken care of first.
