3-D Turkey Craft

I was on the hunt to find a Thanksgiving craft for my daughter's classroom.  I found a fantastic 3-D turkey project with a pdf from Designs with Heart.  You can go to the Designs with Heart page here and download the instructions.  It's a great craft to do with the kids and makes a cute centerpiece or decoration.

Counting Down

This project is dedicated to my sister, Annie.  She's the whole reason I made this paper chain.  We are all getting excited for the beach.  My daughter is especially excited and every day asks me if we are going to the beach today.  So, here's our beach themed paper chain. My daughter and I made waves, palm trees, suns and tropical flower paper chains.

She loves to rip a chain off each day and has ceased asking if we are going to the beach today.  

Derby Day Hat

We had a sick day today at home and my kids are not the type that lounge around when they are sick.  So, I had to keep my daughter busy.  We decided to make a hat.  It started out as a Cinco de Mayo hat, but turned out looking more like a hat you would wear to the Kentucky Derby.
All you need to do is take a piece of craft paper, white or brown and shape onto your child's head.  To keep it in wrap the crown with masking tape.  I didn't have regular masking tape on hand, so I found some painter's tape to use instead.  Once it is secure you can trim the edges in a circular shape and let the artist takeover.   She had a great time painting and decorating her hat and it kept her busy for a little while.

Then she found out how the hat flies around when she spins. 

Then we ended the day with breaking the remaining cascarones that we had left over from Easter. You'd never think she was sick from looking at these pictures.  

Bunny Pin

My daughter received this pin today from her teacher and I thought it was so cute and clever.  Very easy to make too.  The materials you would need are a clothes pin, google eyes, fuzzy pom poms, ribbon and a pin for the back.  My daughter loved it and wore it the rest of the day.

Cascarones aka Confetti Eggs

 Cascarones or confetti eggs are a great Easter craft and kids love making them too.  They originated in Italy, but are also a Mexican tradition as well.  They can be hidden and once the person finds the cascaron they crack the egg on their friend's head.  It is said to be good luck and you make a wish. 
First, you will need to put a small hole on the end of the egg.  I just crack it a bit and then hollow out a hole with a toothpick. Here is what it looks like.

Next, you will pour the egg out and rinse out the inside with water.  Be prepared to make something with all of these eggs.  We made omelets with ours.

Now we are ready to dye and decorate the eggs. The kids love this part.

After you dye the eggs you will need to let them dry before you put the confetti in.  Here is where you can make your confetti or you can buy packaged confetti.  We made a little bit of confetti before my daughter was done.

Once the eggs are dry you can fill the eggs with confetti.  This can be a little messy and if you have a funnel on hand it is much easier.

 

To seal the egg you will need a piece of tissue paper a little larger than the hole in the egg. Place glue around the edge of the hole and put tissue paper on top.

At this point you are done or you can add more decoration such as glitter glue, etc.  Now go have some fun and don't forget to make a wish.

My Crafty Child

My daughter is turning into mini version of myself.  The other day she had some ribbon and was telling me that she wanted to make a picture frame for her preschool teacher.  I wasn't going to hear the end of it until I got her everything she needed for her project. She's very persuasive.  I got all my beads, paint and glitter glue out for the project.  My daughter adores all things that sparkle and shine.  For the frame itself we just used cardboard since it was something I had on-hand.  It actually turned out really cute and she wanted to keep it after we finished it, but I convinced her that she could make herself another one tomorrow. 
Here is the final product.  I think she did a great job for a 4 year old.

 

Mother's Day Gifts

Happy Mother's Day! I have to show you what my daughter made for me at preschool for Mother's Day.  She was so cute and proud of her work.
