Plaid Bench

The Plaid Bench is designed by Raw Edges Design Studio and I just love the use of color in this piece of furniture.  The designers that make up Raw Edges Design Studio are Yael Mer and Shay Alkalay.  They have some other really cool projects on their website that you can find here.

Painting

I have some pre-framed canvases that I bought at a garage sale a few years ago, but they are on the small side and I haven't found much use for them yet.  I decided to get one out and paint the word "Family" on it to use for my gallery wall and add a pop of blue to the wall.  So, I painted the word Family and then decided to add it in different languages too.  Once I get another photograph printed I'll show you the gallery wall and a quick and easy way to lay them out and attach them to the wall.

Fairy Quilt

I wanted to show off the fairy quilt my mom made for my daughter's room.  It is so cute!  The fairy appliqued to the quilt mimics the fairies in the fabric.  We also love the fur yarn used on the hair of the fairy.

Name Applique

I've had this project on my to do list for awhile and just finally got around to doing it.  I bought two Pottery Barn Anywhere chairs off of Craigslist for a steal.  I was scoping them out because I swear my kids are monkeys and I thought they would were going to tear up my couch.  I figured if they had their very own chairs they'd leave my furniture alone.  Unfortunately, my kids names are not Julia and Thomas which were already monogrammed on the chairs, although the names are quite lovely.  I got out the seam ripper and removed one name, but you could still see the name so I needed to put an applique over it.  I tend to do things the hard way.  Not sure why that it is.  To make the applique I used a fabric paint to stencil their names on the fabric.  I used the freezer paper stencil method since it seems to work the best. Seriously if you've never tried this way to stencil on fabric it is fantastic.  You get the freezer paper at the grocery store.  Then you cut out your stencil and iron it shiny side to the fabric.  Then you can use fabric paint to stencil on the fabric.

For the fabric I had some leftover red knit.  I'm not sure why I thought that would be okay to use since it stretches when you sew it. Ugh.  So, I was in my make it work mode and fixed it by using an iron on stabilizer that I had on hand.  Zig-zagged around the edges to attach it to the chair and was done. Check!  Another project done.

Spring Break

This past week was Spring Break for the kids and we spent the week doing fun things. So, the blog was neglected and all the projects too.  Instead we went strawberry picking at a local farm in the area, Froberg's Farm.  The kids love it and I always have a great time too.
They also have delicious fried pies.  Lily's favorite is coconut.

Then we made a trip to the Houston Rodeo.  They had a blast checking out the animals and riding the rides.

Friendly animals or maybe just really hungry animals.  They had no problem coming up to see if you had food.

We took a ride on the carousel.

And of course you can't leave without a ride on the Ferris Wheel.  Although, I did get a little more nervous riding it this year.  It might of been the little 2 year old who seemed to be dangerously close to the edge.  I thought I was going to have a panic attack.

We ended spring break by running through the sprinklers at our house.

Now it's back to school we go!

Casserole Carrier

Another pin on my Pinterest board finished.  Yay!  I've found in the past that I could really use a casserole carrier when I attend potlucks, bring meals to families, etc. The blog, 2 Little Hooligans has the fantastic tutorial for this carrier.  I also used the idea that Homemade by Jill did by using belt material for the handles.  I made two carriers, one for me and one for my sister in-law for her birthday.  After making the first one, I found out that I would much rather have it lined.  The velcro kept getting stuck to the Insul-Bright fabric.  So, the second one is lined and will be sent to my sister in-law.  Happy Birthday Ashley!

Upcoming Project

This weekend we were playing catch up around our house in the way of home repairs.  After having our foundation done we have to go through each room and patch the cracks and paint the room.  We finally started this long process this weekend.  The first room to get the overhaul is our guest room.  I've now decided to change into my son's room.  So, of course I've been looking for inspiration and pinning it on pinterest.  So, I'm thinking an orange, gray, and a pop of blue color scheme.

I've also decided that airplanes will be be our theme.  I thought this wall art was too cute.

Here is a cute airplane quilt.  My mom is planning on making a quilt for his bed.  She made a fairy quilt for my daughter's bed.  I need to post a picture of it.  It's really cute!

I thought these fabrics were cute too with the airplanes and helicopters.

Airplane propeller hanging rack.  What a cute idea.  I think I could make something similar for his room.

More inspirational artwork for the room.

Latex Roll Pouf

I came across this pouf and thought it was pretty cool looking.  It is made by 13 Ricrea a group of Italian designers.  What I find interesting is that it is made from latex that is used for shoes insoles.  They are using the waste from the Italian shoemakers and producing these poufs.  I just love the colors and the way they look.  It's just fun!
