Little Doctor

My sweet niece had her 2nd birthday and I wanted to make a special present for her.  I heard that she's loves to play dress up and wanted to add to her collection of dress up apparel.  I had a pattern for a pair of scrubs and went ahead and made it up.  Then I finished it off by embroidering her name on the pocket. I paired it up with a doctor's kit for her present. I hope she liked it.  Here is a picture of my son in the outfit.

Jeep Painting

I've been working on 3 different paintings for a friend who has 3 little boys.  This one I just finished for her little boy, Sterling.  He is into jeeps, so I thought I'd try my hand at painting one for him.

Easter Egg Wreath

Here's a new DIY wreath that I made for Easter.  It literally costs me less than two dollars.  I reused a grapevine wreath and had the ribbon on hand.  I found the plastic eggs on sale.  Yay.  It's such an easy project and looks very festive on your front door.  Hot glue is key in this project and you will have the wreath done in no time.

Mirrors

I found the most wonderful mirrors from a company called Made Goods.  Each mirror has a unique design and style.  Made Goods also produces light fixtures and furniture, but mirrors are definitely their specialty. Here are some of my favorites.

The last one is my absolute favorite.  Gorgeous.

Spring Break

Well, it's spring break here in Texas and we went on a little road trip to visit with my in-laws.  The weather was perfect and the kids loved playing outside.

We also took my daughter ice skating for the first time.  She had so much fun, but I'm pretty sure that my husband was doing all the work trying to keep her on her feet.

Unfortunately, I don't have a new project finished to show you.  I do have a few in the works and hopefully, I'll get one of them done this week.

SYTYC Blog Spotlight

This week I'm featuring Mandy at Sugar Bee Craft Edition.  Definitely go check out her blog and see what's she's been up to since SYTYC.

Mandy @ Sugar Bee Craft Edition

Hi!! I’m Mandy from my little corner of the craft world, Sugar Bee Craft Edition.   I am lucky to stay home with my four kids and enjoy all the fun that comes with it.  I also (obviously!) love crafts and creating.  I am 31 and have been married for almost 10 years (blind dates DO work!) – we have kids that will soon be 8,6,4, and 2 (all their birthdays are within 5 weeks of each other – and it’s coming up soon! crazy time of year!)  I have my bachelor’s degree in Sociology but should have chosen something craftier like Family and Consumer Sciences (aka, Home Ec). I live in the Midwest but love the craft-blogging world because I can get inspiration and meet other crafters from all over.  I am excited to be challenged each week on SYTYC by the themes and competition from the other great crafters.

Lighting by Catellani & Smith

The company, Catellani & Smith has some beautiful modern light fixtures.  The Fil de Fer pictured below is my favorite.

I read that the designer Enzo Catellani was inspired by "the light, rolling bushes, blown by the wind in the Mexican dessert".  I love the chaos of this light fixture.

To view more lighting by Catellani & Smith you can find it here.

Makeup Bag

My sister in-law just had a birthday and I wanted to sew a makeup bag for her.  The only part that worried me in making it was the zipper.  I freak out when I have to put a zipper in, but I found a fabulous makeup bag tutorial at Flossie Teacakes blog and it was a snap.  I just changed the measurements up a bit because I needed it a bit bigger and added gussets so it would stand up.

Jessie's Shirt

I was so excited that I finished the chaps for my daughter's rodeo day, but she had another project lined up for me.  You can't look like Jessie from Toy Story if you don't have the shirt, at least that was my daughter said.  I went ahead and threw one together so she could be Jessie.  I went with a short sleeved shirt, because it is already warm here in Houston.  She already had this white knit shirt and I appliqued the yellow knit and the red trim.  It turned out super cute and she absolutely loved it.  She had the biggest smile on her face when the kids asked her if she was Jessie.

Entry Flooring Done

The floor is finished for the most part.  There are a few little things left like sealing the grout and painting the quarter round, but at least it looks done.  I promised my husband I wouldn't put him through laying two different sized tiles for the kitchen and I'm keeping my promise.  I think the two different sized tiles in the entry way look great and I'm so happy with the way it turned out.  Although, I'm sure anything would have been better than that wonderful 1970's tile and it couldn't get any uglier with the concrete patch from our foundation work.

 Before

 After

I can just imagine the next owner 30 years from now complaining about the tile from the 2010's.  Haha.  We will be moving on to the kitchen to do the flooring in there even though the entry way is far from finished.  We still have to go back and patch and paint walls, maybe put in some crown molding and definitely change out the light.

Here's what I'm thinking for a light.  My mom found it and it's definitely one that looks like me.
