SYTYC Blog Spotlight

This week I'm featuring Mandy at Sugar Bee Craft Edition.  Definitely go check out her blog and see what's she's been up to since SYTYC.

Mandy @ Sugar Bee Craft Edition

Hi!! I’m Mandy from my little corner of the craft world, Sugar Bee Craft Edition.   I am lucky to stay home with my four kids and enjoy all the fun that comes with it.  I also (obviously!) love crafts and creating.  I am 31 and have been married for almost 10 years (blind dates DO work!) – we have kids that will soon be 8,6,4, and 2 (all their birthdays are within 5 weeks of each other – and it’s coming up soon! crazy time of year!)  I have my bachelor’s degree in Sociology but should have chosen something craftier like Family and Consumer Sciences (aka, Home Ec). I live in the Midwest but love the craft-blogging world because I can get inspiration and meet other crafters from all over.  I am excited to be challenged each week on SYTYC by the themes and competition from the other great crafters.

SYTYC - Blog Spotlight

I'm a week behind on my blog spotlighting from SYTYC.  This week I'm spotlighting the winners of SYTYC, Season 5, KoJo Designs.

We are Kirstin and Jordan, sisters who blog over at kojodesigns.  We’re both stay at home mama’s… Kirstin has a 2 year old, Burke, and a newborn baby, Piper Jane, and Jordan has two little girls, Keadryn (3) and Sayla (2), and she’s due with Number Three (another sweet baby girl!) in February.
Pretty much, we love to make things… We have slight addictions to pretty paper and fabric, love nothing more than putting together a kickin’ party or shower, and both still subscribe to Martha Stewart Weddings even though we’ve each been married for 7+ years- haha!  .
Other fun facts about us- Jordan loves salty treats, Kirst loves sweets, Kirstin’s favorite season is summer and Jord’s is winter, Jord would live in a hoodie and jeans if she could, Kirstin would wear a sundress every day if the weather permitted. In our pre-baby lives Kirstin taught elementary school in the ghetto and Jord gallivanted around the world, living in exotic places and learning Spanish and Arabic.  Oh, and we both LOVE travelling, Jesus, dark chocolate, happy hour at Sonic and being in the mountains.
Check them out at KoJo Designs.

SYTYC Blog Spotlight

This week I am spotlighting Kailyn from So You Think You're Crafty - Season 5.

Kailyn @ Kailyn’s Bit of Sunshine

It all began as a little girl who loved to draw and create. That meant sometimes getting into trouble because of the many messes that went with her creations. As a child her mother introduced her to the world of paper dolls. Her mother would draw her a simple doll and showed her how to make clothes for the doll. This was one of her fondest memories of her mother. When she was just 10 years old, she moved to Texas, where she remembers, “I would happily sit for hours at a time and just draw pictures.”
After high school, Kailyn attended college and even took one art class, but art would have to take a back seat to family. Over the next few years she married and began a small family. During this period of time her desire to sketch and draw resurfaced with a vengeance. She began creating her daughters birthday and Christmas gifts, one of her favorites being paper dolls.
Kailyn spent the next 20 years raising her family and doing her art mainly for family and friends. Because she chose to stay home and raise her family, funds were always tight. Learning new mediums and techniques required her to teach herself the skills needed. She began to branch out, and expand her artistic horizons. Self taught she started to woodwork and tole paint. This allowed her to take her own designs and cut and paint them. From there, she began working with clay, making her own beads to incorporate into her jewelry making. Bead making then prompted her to learn lampworking. Glass has become one of her favorite mediums, from glass bead making to fusing glass pendants.
After moving back to Texas again in 2003 with an empty nest, her husband took their formal living area and turned it into the studio of her dreams. She now has the perfect place to create and come up with even more ideas. She spends two thirds of her days in her studio.
A whole new world of creating began with the birth of her grand babies. From patterns for a christening gown, baby shoes, diaper bags, purses and baby bracelets, to wooden puzzles, giant stuffed snakes, stuffed blocks and of course more paper dolls, Kailyn is totally in her element.
Recently she has decided to go back to work so she can spoil the grand babies even more. She has found the perfect job, working for G’nosh.. With over 40 years of creating, she is still the girl who just needs to create and can still sit happily for hours at a time just drawing pictures.

SYTYC Blog Spotlight

This week I'm featuring Julliana, a fellow SoYouThinkYou'reCrafty contestant from Season 5.

Julliana @ Equal Opportunity Crafter

Hi, my name is Julliana and I love crafting! I was born in Brazil and raised in Utah. I am a teacher by profession, and have taught Math in public schools for 4 years before having my sweet baby boy. Since then, I’ve been teaching Math online through the local University (so I get to stay home) and working on a Masters of Arts in English (just for fun). I’ve been married for 7 years and have a wonderful 2 year old boy and one more on the way.  I’ve always loved crafting of all kinds and I can’t focus my energy on any one thing. I enjoy photography, sewing, scrapbooking, digital and hybrid arts, home decor arts…really just anything creative. It helps to not sleep and enforce nap times! I’m super excited to be participating in SYTYC and can’t wait to see what all the other creative gals come up with. Check me out at Equal Opportunity Crafter.

SYTYC Blog Spotlight

Today I'm featuring another wonderful lady from SYTYC - Season 5.

Heidi @ Made by Heidi

Hi! I’m Heidi and I happen to LOVE crafting. Seriously, it’s my Achilles heel… I love photography, paper crafts, sewing, knitting, crocheting, etc. I’m originally from Utah but have lived on the east coast for almost 8 years. My husband and I met and married in Utah, moved to Manhattan in 2003 and lived there until my husband decided to go back to school. We have 2 little girls and they happen to be the best things that have ever happened to me. I’m so excited that we will be graduating next year! Crafting on a student budget (no money!) has been difficult but it’s also forced me to think outside of the box in terms of what I can create. Don’t get me wrong, it will be great to have money again! :)   So excited for this season! Thanks!

SYTYC Blog Spotlight

This week I'm featuring Chica and Jo from SYTYC - Season 5.  These ladies made it to the top 3.  Fantastic projects.

Chica and Jo

Hi everybody.  We are Chica and Jo!  We are family-oriented,
fun-loving women who enjoy life to the fullest, and our favorite way
to do that is through crafts.
We attribute our craftiness to our creative minds and our clever
solutions to everyday problems. Some of these solutions are quick and
easy and help us save time. Sometimes they are affordable alternatives
that save us money. Sometimes we come up with neat ways to track and
organize things in our lives, so that we can focus on the important
things. Then there are the times where we do outlandish things simply
because we can and we want to. But no matter what the purpose, the
outcome is always crafty and our friends can’t stop talking about it.
We started ChicaAndJo.com so that we could share our ideas with the
world, one crafter at a time.  Our mission is to inspire you. We want
to give you ideas and guidance, and maybe help you think of unusual
solutions to common problems. We want to help you use your creative
side and “wow” your friends with some clever solutions of your own.
Visit us whenever you need party ideas, recipes, kids’ crafts, wedding
projects, sewing patterns, or advice and inspiration.  Our hundreds of
free tutorials loaded with photos and video make us your ultimate
online guides for all things crafty!
